Northern lights (aurora borealis) are luminous phenomena in polar regions of the atmosphere, in heights of approx. 80km up to 600km. They are a result of charged particles from the sun (solar wind) which are ionising nitrogen- and oxygen atoms. Northern lights appear typically in greenish, reddish to bluish colors.
